Archaeological park

Despite of its short life, the polis of Selinunte is nowadays studded with a great number of archaeological vestiges of its ancient grandeur.

Inside the archaeological park, we can distinguish five main areas:

    • the acropolis
    • the ancient city of Selinunte (west side of ¨Marinella di Selinunte¨ village)
    • eastern hill
    • Malophòros sanctuary
    • necropolis

On the acropolis, there was a large number of temples and public buildings, related to the cult as for instance the temples D, C (the most ancient) and the temple B.

To the southern extremity, we find the two temples A and O, very close to them, while on the eastern hill, the rests of three temples F, G, E rise.

The temple G, one of the bigger among the ancient, was never completed.

The temple F, located on the south, was restored and reconstructed using mainly original materials.

The ancient city rose on Manuzza hill, located on the north of the acropolis.

Here we can distinguish the ancient houses and the roads positioned in orthogonal way.

One km far from the acropolis, on the west side of Selino-Modione river, the Malophoròs sanctuary, takes up a quadrangular surface.

Moreover, in this area there are different necropolises, located on the north of Manuzza hill and both to the east and to the west sides of the Modione river.
